A lockdown transformation that’s got us all bowled over
How lockdown turned out to be the perfect time to transform The Bowler's Arms into one of the area's most exceptional venues - see the journey here.
While some of us were using any lockdown freetime for DIY and working in the garden, the team behind The Bowler’s Arms decided that rather than make do and mend, it was time to go the whole hog and knock down and rebuild.
And what a great decision it was.
The already popular venue at Wash Common’s Falkland Cricket Club has emerged transformed and unrecognisable, ready to host events and welcome cricket fans and those looking for a venue with an unbeatable view for a drink and maybe a hearty homecooked lunch.
Established in 1999, this gem of a local venue has come of age in style with this stunning transformation.
In January, just days into the 3rd lockdown, the decision was made that the old Bowler’s Arms would not reopen. Instead the team would put all their focus and energy into pulling the old one down and getting the new one ready!
“It truly is the end of an era, but the start of a fantastic new one.”
Not wasting a moment, on the 15 Jan, the contents began to be moved out of the old venue.
28 Jan 2021– the plans for the new venue are shared
26 March, after a good innings, the old club house was bowled out and subsequently reduced to ashes.
Today saw the old Bowler’s Arms take it’s last breath!
Enjoyed by many over the years, it has served us well and deserves to sleep!
An exciting and safe demolition by Andy and Laura Batt of C & E Groundworks Ltd. (They actually met in the Bowler’s 15 years ago!)
Eras end and new ones begin. Falkland Cricket Club’s new Pavillion and the brand new Bowler’s Arms are close to completion and will offer outstanding facilities for both cricket and hospitality.
We look forward to serving you soon!
