Honesty cafes can be found in various locations in Hampshire and Berkshire. They are all a little different, reflecting the communities in which they sit. The common thread that connects them is food and drink of good quality, served in a congenial atmosphere by staff who care.

In addition to their cafes, the Honest Group includes a farm shop, the Saddleback Farm Shop just outside Wantage in the village of Brightwalton.

They even have a couple of pubs too, with the Hartley Arms in Donnington, Newbury, and the Crown and Garter in Inkpen, Newbury. Both serve food made from scratch, using local ingredients, with menus that change regularly to reflect the seasons.

Honesty Group is a small local food business founded on a passion for quality food created with time, care and a love of good quality ingredients. Founded by Romilla Arber in 2014, in an unloved old coaching inn, with a converted barn, in the village of Inkpen. This was the chance for Romilla to realise a long held dream of baking good honest healthy bread, free from additives, emulsifiers and preservatives. The beautiful old pub was refurbished and the old barn space put to work as  a bakery and small coffee shop. And with this, Honesty was born.

Since 2014 the bakery has moved twice as a result of growing demand for their bakery products, and is now in Turnpike, Newbury, producing bread, cakes, pastries, pies, pasties, soups, stews, sandwiches and salads.

Thatcham Butchers was founded in 1985 by Graham Wilks, originating in a small retail shop in Thatcham, Berkshire. The quality of the fresh English meat ultimately led to an interest from the catering trade and the business grew very quickly. Sustained growth required much bigger premises and a move to the purpose built factory in Arnhem Road, Newbury was facilitated in 2004 and therefore the move to service the Catering industry was completed.

The Newbury Soup Kitchen is a voluntary organisation providing help and support to the Newbury homeless, rough sleeper community and those less fortunate than others. The primary operation is a friendly drop-in centre each and every Thursday for vulnerable adults who perhaps have mental health issues or are just lonely. We welcome all comers with hot food for the evening, a friendly face and a welcome opportunity to chat. A warm welcome awaits anyone wishing to socialise, find support, enjoy a hot meal and interact with like-minded people.

Whilst our offering is currently limited to Thursday evenings, the organisation of this single evening can stretch throughout the week. 

With collecting food supplies and welcome donations, we find ourselves potentially able to expand our service even further. Our limitation ? Room. We are currently offered the facilities of the Salvation Army, but we are keen to expand our offering – but this requires dedicated premises. We are actively searching for premises in the Newbury area and our fundraising efforts assist in supporting this effort.

As part of our expanding service and with some pretty cold weather in the offing, we have started to offer a Saturday Soup service. With a slightly more limited food offering of soup, bread, pot noodles and snacks, we hope to assist the homeless even more. We aim to continue this service beyond the winter months, adapting the offering appropriately to the seasons.

Now we are providing “grab bag” type meals therefore we are requiring biodegradable oyster bags and soup cups with lids. Our Amazon Wish list is updated often so everything on it is up to date.

Soft drinks, crisps and snacks to compliment our cooked meals and sandwiches are also required. Co-Op at Wash Common and Brummell Road have donation bins which is amazing. Please donate if you can, it is a huge help we will be providing over 250 meals a week so we will require lots of biodegradable take away boxes and Soup cups with lids. 

We have a new project on The Good Exchange which reflects the Soup Kitchen and our hoped expansion for the future of finding a building and of course COVID 19 funding.

Greenham Common Control Tower opened its doors in Summer 2018 as a visitor centre and community hub, with the aim to preserve and share the historical legacy of one of the few remaining airfield buildings. Dirty Sam's is a new burger van in Newbury located in the Nightingales with lovely food menu to choose from. 

I decided to start Dirty Sam's when I came back from my trip home to the USA in 2016. When I was out there I realised the food scene was much better than back in the UK mostly it was the burgers and fries that made the difference. 

Why Dirty Sam's? Well my name's Sam and while we were thinking of burger names for the messiest, biggest, juiciest burger we came up with the infamous Dirty Burger that you will find on my menu, which kind of stuck around until one of us put Dirty Sam's together and the rest is history.
